Green Lantern 80th Anniversary Special #1: Alan Scott's Classic Origin Story Gets A New Twist!

June is Pride Month, and while I was thinking of doing another 'Top 5s' list for Helena Wayne's most queer moments in comics this year, I decided to focus on one of her oldest friends instead. Another fellow member of the Justice Society of America who also happens to be one of my favourite DC characters!

Just in time for Pride Month, and just in time for celebrating the original Green Lantern's 80th Anniversary, we look at Alan Scott's original origin story in All-American Comics #16, as well as the updated version of that story featured in this week's Green Lantern 80th Anniversary Special #1 by James Tynion IV and Gary Frank!

In case this needs saying, spoilers ahead for both All-American Comics #16 and Green Lantern 80th Anniversary Special #1!

Doomsday Clock #7 Reveals The Fate Of Alan Scott And The Justice Society. So Now What? Spoilers Ahead.

Doomsday Clock #7 hit the shelves last week, and while the story does recover one major piece to the larger puzzle, we are sadly still no closer to seeing (let alone understanding) the larger picture that is the post-Flashpoint DC Universe. We especially don’t know what writer Geoff Johns wants to say about DC’s haphazard reboots and their long term damages to character vitality and the integrity of their core mythologies.

Doomsday Clock #5: The Road To Finding The Justice Society Finally Begins? Spoilers Ahead!

I find it a bit ironic that just four days after I expressed concern about the lack of progress on the Justice Society's return in Rebirth, lo and behold, Doomsday Clock #5 starts to pick up pace on that front. And because I can't talk about what happens in this week's issue without spoiling the big reveal, insert spoiler alert here, come back to this post after you've read the issue. If you don't care about being spoiled, proceed.

The Best of Huntress and Power Girl: All-Star Comics #74

Title: All-Star Comics #74
Story: World on the Edge of Ending
Characters: Power Girl (Kara Zor-L), Huntress (Helena Wayne), Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson), Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Flash (Jay Garrick), Hawkman (Carter Hall)
Creators: Paul Levitz (writer), Joe Staton (artist)
Publication Date: September 1978
Available In: Print | Digital

Summary: Doctor Fate and Hawkman are summoned to another dimension by a mysterious powerful being who calls himself 'Master Summoner.' The Master Summoner warns the two heroes of an impending danger that could result in the destruction of Earth-2 if they don't 'act wisely' before the 'critical hour' ends. The Master Summoner is very vague about what he means by all this and Doctor Fate and Hawkman don't ask for clarity. At least, we are not shown this on panel.
