Green Lantern 80th Anniversary Special #1: Alan Scott's Classic Origin Story Gets A New Twist!

June is Pride Month, and while I was thinking of doing another 'Top 5s' list for Helena Wayne's most queer moments in comics this year, I decided to focus on one of her oldest friends instead. Another fellow member of the Justice Society of America who also happens to be one of my favourite DC characters! 

Just in time for Pride Month, and just in time for celebrating the original Green Lantern's 80th Anniversary, we look at Alan Scott's original origin story in All-American Comics #16, as well as the updated version of that story featured in this week's Green Lantern 80th Anniversary Special #1 by James Tynion IV and Gary Frank!

Doomsday Clock #12 Reinstates A Classic Superhero Team And Teases The Return Of Another Fan Favourite Heroine

It's been a while since I've written about current events in the comics, and that was largely due to the fact I've been busy with other projects these past three months. Projects such as reviewing the 2002 Birds of Prey television series (which I concluded last month), and have finished recording episodes for the Straight out of Gallifrey Podcast, the Fire and Water Podcast, and we just wrapped up recording the first five episodes for Volume 02 of The Huntress Podcast that will launch first thing next year. But getting to the main topic at hand, today saw the finales of both Tom King's Batman run as well as Geoff Johns' and Gary Frank's Doomsday Clock, as well as the penultimate issue of Scott Snyder's Justice Doom War storyline in Justice League. Out of the three, I definitely want to talk about Doomsday Clock because the finale of this maxiseries lays the groundwork for the future of DC, and for once, I'm actually excited about DC's future plans!

Justice League vs Doomsday Clock: The Journey Into DC's Past, Present, And Future Continues

Today is the release of both Doomsday Clock #11 and Justice League #31, both of which have a unifying theme concerning the DC Universe's susceptibility to change, but have yet to offer any insights into its future direction. At the moment, both stories are offering their own interpretations for why the DC Universe changes the way that it does.

Doomsday Clock vs Justice League: Two Competing Entities for the Evolution of the DC Multiverse

Doomsday Clock #10 came out this past week, and I have to say this is the first issue I've genuinely enjoyed since the series first launched in 2017. I won't get into Doctor Manhattan's role in this story too much in part because I feel Geoff Johns has been using the character in ways that don't fully understand the purpose of his character in Watchmen, and in part because I want to focus on the details that matter most to me in this story: the history of the DC Multiverse and specifically how that changed over a period of time.

Geoff Johns shifted focus back to the DC Universe in Doomsday Clock #8, but it is actually in Doomsday Clock #10 where we start seeing answers to some of the questions first posited in DC Universe Rebirth #1 in 2016, some of which seem to intersect with events happening in Scott Snyder's Justice League. There will be spoilers throughout this post for both Doomsday Clock and Justice League. Gary Frank Teases JSA First Appearance in Doomsday Clock #10, Plus Updates

Doomsday Clock #7 Reveals The Fate Of Alan Scott And The Justice Society. So Now What? Spoilers Ahead.

Doomsday Clock #7 hit the shelves last week, and while the story does recover one major piece to the larger puzzle, we are sadly still no closer to seeing (let alone understanding) the larger picture that is the post-Flashpoint DC Universe. We especially don’t know what writer Geoff Johns wants to say about DC’s haphazard reboots and their long term damages to character vitality and the integrity of their core mythologies.

Doomsday Clock #5: The Road To Finding The Justice Society Finally Begins? Spoilers Ahead!

I find it a bit ironic that just four days after I expressed concern about the lack of progress on the Justice Society's return in Rebirth, lo and behold, Doomsday Clock #5 starts to pick up pace on that front.
