End of the Year Reflection, New Years Resolution Post

Here we are guys. We've made it! The last day of 2015! The end of the rope! And what a tough year it has been to be an Earth-2 fan hasn't it, comrades? We sat through the shitstorm of Earth-2: World's End and the sequel comic, Earth-2: Society, which continued the same problems with characterisation and lazy writing so many of us found off-putting with the first comic. The only difference was the second comic didn't have the accompanying disaster porn that made the first comic unbearable to read. Still, the year hasn't been all bad.

The Best of the Huntress: All-Star Comics #71 Review

Title: All-Star Comics #71
Story: The Deadliest Game in Town
Characters: Huntress (Helena Wayne), Wildcat (Ted Grant), The Star-Spangled Kid (Sylvester Pemberton)
Creators: Paul Levitz (writer), Joe Staton (artist)
Publication Date: March 1978
Available In: Print | Digital

Summary: Picking up where the last issue left off, Wildcat, Star-Spangled Kid, and the Huntress are all surrounded by the Strike Force. Huntress rationalises that under the current circumstances, it really makes no difference if they strike first or not because the people they're up against them are going to attack them anyway. Seeing no merit in talking things through, Huntress decides to attack first thinking that if they take initiative, they can at least eliminate some of the Strike Force's numbers and the rest will be easier to manage. Wildcat doesn't like taking orders from a woman, but Kid sees no point in arguing with the Huntress and goes along with her plan. Wildcat eventually follows suit since he at least gets to punch some guys down, which is something he enjoys doing. Helena confirms that she is not trying to give orders, but is merely trying to 'be a part of the team.'

The Best of the Huntress: All-Star Comics #70 Review

Title: All-Star Comics #70
Story: A Parting of the Ways
Characters: Huntress (Helena Wayne), Wildcat (Ted Grant), The Star-Spangled Kid (Sylvester Pemberton)
Creators: Paul Levitz (writer), Joe Staton (artist)
Publication Date: January 1978
Available In: Print | Digital

Summary: Following the Psycho-Pirate's attack on both Bruce Wayne and the Justice Society, all heroes are gathered up in the Justice Society's main headquarters in Gotham getting reacquainted. After saying a few words to one another, most depart to carry on with their day's activities, leaving Power Girl, Wildcat, and the Star-Spangled Kid with nothing to do. Without any crime happening in the city (much less a major threat requiring the Justice Society), all three remaining members find themselves feeling bored. Power Girl departs to look for something to do (and she does), leaving both Kid and Wildcat to ease their boredom on their own.

He has recurring dreams about Helena Wayne as the Huntress, Power Girl, and the Joker. Upon waking up, Harry finds himself surrounded by hospital staff and even his girlfriend, Helena Wayne, in her civilian identity. The doctor asks all staff to leave the room in order to give the couple some privacy. Helena greets Harry with a hug and goes on to tell him he doesn't need to worry about the Joker anymore as she succeeded in apprehending him. While Harry is grateful for Helena's rescue, he still tells her that he finds her vigilantism a problem for their relationship and doesn't believe he can keep loving her with this knowledge.

The Best of the Huntress: Wonder Woman #277 Review

Title: Wonder Woman #277

Trigger Warning: Domestic Violence

Summary: Following the events with the Thinker in the previous story, Helena Wayne finds herself in a conundrum regarding Harry Sims discovering her secret identity as the Huntress. She spends the winter night ruminating about the fact and how to appropriately respond to the situation. On the one hand, she's relieved it wasn't just anyone who discovered her secret, but on the other hand, her safety isn't guaranteed since circumstances can still force Harry to reveal her identity to someone else. She wants to have faith that it will never come down to that, but also prefers to find some way to relieve Harry of this knowledge for safety measure. (Maybe she should call Doctor Fate for a mind wipe?)

Supergirl Week: Revisiting The Earth-2 Power Girl

The much anticipated Supergirl television series made its smashing debut this week to sky-high ratings in both the United States and Canada. It also garnered a whopping 500K viewers in the United Kingdom when it debuted on the satellite/cable network Sky One this past Thursday.

This is tremendous success for one of DC Comics' iconic heroines that had everyone talking all week, including at my workplace and at various other public spaces that aren't typically fronted by comic book nerds like myself. The fact that Supergirl resulted in the highest rated show of the fall season led iTunes to offer the pilot episode for free download in the US, and a massive Supergirl digital comics sale on Comixology that ends on Monday.

Both Huntress and Power Girl assist with taking down the criminals neighbouring the Acme Engraving Plate Company building, which the police officers are grateful for, but are also unsure if they should be thanking them with the recent DA endorsement to police superheroes. This upsets Power Girl, even if she knows the police officer's heart is 'in the right place.'

She believes Harry's anti-cape agenda is uncalled for considering the work superheroes have repeatedly done to protect Gotham from dangerous criminals. Harry condescends Power Girl about needing to handle problems in a more 'reasonable' manner, to which she retorts with 'if I didn't have principles, I'd show you five fingers worth of reasonable.' Power Girl is only persuaded to leave with the arrival of the Huntress, who--through a subconscious gesture--accidentally tips Harry off on her identity.

America vs the Justice Society Preview

Today, America vs the Justice Society was released in trade along with Justice Society of America: A Celebration of 75 Years.

At the moment, both trades are only available for digital download, and the print versions are only available to people who pre-ordered them online. They should, however, be available for purchase tomorrow at comic shops, along with tomorrow's new comics.

Here's an exclusive preview of America vs the Justice Society in case you are still on the fence on whether or not to get this. In my honest opinion? The fact that it's a well-crafted story that examines the history of the Justice Society on Earth-2 and allows Helena Wayne to function as a lawyer are two of the major selling points of this miniseries!

Also, I'll start reviewing this mini this week! :)
