PATREON | Wonder Woman 1984 Review

Following the success of 2017’s Wonder Woman, Warner Bros knew they had to follow that up with a sequel that continued the titular heroine’s journey in a way that built on the foundation of the first film, but took her in a bolder new direction. The opening sequence of Wonder Woman 1984 does exactly that when it states its new thesis for the film: you have to work for the things you want in life and can’t take any shortcuts to get there!

Wonder Woman #750: A Brave New World, A Bold New Timeline

Wonder Woman #750 came out this week, and as an 80th anniversary special, it is everything you can hope for in celebration of the famous Amazonian princess. It concludes Steve Orlando’s ‘Wild Hunt’ storyline from the main title, and features a couple of short stories from various men and women in comics, especially ones who have contributed to the narrative of DC’s feminist icon in some capacity.

All featured stories are heartwarming reminders of everything Wonder Woman represents and all that we can aspire to be if we followed her example. Some of my favourite stories in this special include the ones from Mariko Tamaki and Elena Casagrande, Gail Simone and Colleen Doran, Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott, Marguerite Bennett and Laura Braga, Vita Ayala and Amancay Nahuelpan. The one recurring theme in most of these stories is that it's okay to be flawed. Just learn from your mistakes, learn to be kind, and always strive to be better.

On Earth-1, Raven is met with an inexplicable intense pain and it is up to Starfire and Wonder Girl to help her. On Paradise Island, Donna's mother, Queen Hippolyta, and Paul Von Gunther of Science Island attempt to heal her using the purple healing ray, but trace the source of her pain to an alternate Earth--a world of immortals known as Earth-I. The Amazonian Queen realises she must send her daughter and Starfire to that alternate Earth to combat the problem there. On arrival, Starfire and Wonder Girl are met with the final Horseman--Death--whom they successfully fight and defeat.

Following the defeat of Death on Earth-I, the Adjudicator develops a weird fascination with the heroines who successfully defeated his apocalyptic creations. He decides to capture each of the heroines as specimens for further study. Trapped in the Adjudicator's spaceship, it is up to all of the heroines to work together and learn as much about their new enemy as possible to plan their own escape. If they don't get out on time, the Adjudicator could make them history along with their respective Earths!

Following the assault on Calcutta, Lois suspects the remaining three Horsemen of the Apocalypse won't be far behind and wants to know if Earth-1 should prepare for their arrival. Wonder Woman declines to comment further on the matter as a precaution against causing mass panic, which could potentially make the threat of the Adjudicator even worse.

On Earth-2, Black Canary solicits the help of Huntress and Power Girl of the Justice Society to fend off the remaining three Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Together they take on Plague who arrives in the Atlanta City of Earth-2's Georgia. The trio of women are able to stop Plague from causing further damage, but not without Power Girl getting sick in the process. Back on Earth-1, civilian Linda Danvers finds herself on the doorstep of Madame Xanadu at Wonder Woman's suggestion. The latter quickly deduces that the former is really Supergirl, and together they are transported to Earth-X where they assist the Phantom Lady in taking down the third Horseman known as War. Once again, the heroines are successful, but the danger isn't over yet. They still have Death--the last Horseman--to deal with!

Wonder Woman is the first to respond to the emergency and learns a very disturbing truth about her new foe: this isn't the first time the extraterrestrial being known as the Adjudicator has attacked a planet thriving with intelligent life and advanced civilisations. He has a history of destroying such planets that have failed his test of "worthiness" and planet Earth is next. Wonder Woman realises she cannot fight this powerful villain alone and recruits not only the help of the Justice League, but also that of the Earth-2 Justice Society and any other heroes in the known multiverse!

Favourite DC Heroes: Who Are My Top Ten?

This is a question I get a lot from friends and followers on social media and with good reason. After all, in a large superhero universe like DC, there has to be more than one character that I like, right? Otherwise, why bother investing in DC at all?

It's a no brainer which of DC's roster of characters would make #1 on my list (duh), but what a lot of fellow DC fans want to know is "who are the other DC characters I love just as much as my #1?

Yay or Nay? My Thoughts on Wonder Woman, Mild Spoilers Ahead!

Wonder Woman is here and she is crushing everything else at the box office this weekend! This is excellent news for both a superhero film fronted by a woman as well as a female director. It is also the film that is going to undoubtedly pave the road for more female-led superhero films, and hopefully female (including women of colour) directors as well.

Taking place in the last year of World War I, Wonder Woman chronicles Princess Diana's heroic journey from her life as the Amazonian daughter of Queen Hippolyta on Themyscira to becoming the world-wide sensation known as "Wonder Woman" in Man's World. At the start of her journey, Diana has a very innocent view of the world and of mankind comparable to that of a child. As she becomes acquainted with the world of man, its prejudices, weaknesses, and corruption, she starts to learn that life on the other side is more complex and not as clear-cut as she was accustomed to on Themyscira. By the end of her journey, Diana develops a stronger sense of identity and mission for herself.

Deciding not to leave anything to chance, Diana takes matters into her own hands by 'commandeering' the only plane available for her to fly. Using the skills and knowledge she acquired from Steve about aviation, Diana takes an experimental plane on its first flight, and together with the Holliday College girls, she goes to the aid of the allied forces. Once there, Diana finds the Duke of Deception one step closer to reviving the Titan by completing its heart with the Baelytus. Legend of Wonder Woman Gets Volume 2 by DC

It's been known for quite some time that writer and artist Renae De Liz had a sequel planned for her hit miniseries Legend of Wonder Woman, and even pitched another comic that explored the history of the Amazons in depth.

For a while, De Liz was uncertain of the status of her new projects at DC, even with an Eisner nomination for Legend of Wonder Woman for the best digital comic category. Well yesterday, De Liz confirmed and happily announced on Twitter that the second volume of her hit miniseries was greenlit by DC:
I'm so excited to announce that @DCcomics has officially green lit LEGEND OF WONDER WOMAN - Volume 2!!!
